Alternate subtitle: A Bear Sits in My Woods!
For those that don’t know, I’m a pretty big fan of Elizabeth Bear’s writing. So, too, apparently, my cat, who has spent a goodly portion of the time I’ve spent writing this post sniffing all the books. If my cat approves, then the books must be good, right!
Needless to say, I bought a bunch of her books (in some cases, again). So here’s the list:
- Ancestral Night (Gollancz)
- Worldwired (Bantam Spectra)
- Grail (Bantam Spectra)
- Scardown (Bantam Spectra)
- Carnival (Bantam Spectra)
- Chill (Bantam Spectra)
- Hammered (Bantam Spectra)
Some of these books are re-purchases. Carnival and Hammered, alas, were lost many years ago, so along with the others I didn’t have in print form, I had to add those to the list. I mean, they’re really good, y’all. So good.
All of the books here were purchased for my collection of space opera by women, and each appears on the space opera list I’ve been keeping since last year. I know some of them are certainly part of that genre; others may be just adjacent. However, Bear’s work is always exceptional, so owning almost everything she’s ever written is, to be honest, totes worth it.
So, a question: What is your favorite Elizabeth Bear book? Yes, you get only one. Comment below!
