Wendy Trakes, Negotiator Hybrid (1982-2097)
Born on January 1st, 1982 in Felicity Incorporated's Antioch Genetic Laboratory, Wendy “Spine” Trakes is considered the first successful hybridized birth merging genetics from Homo sapiens and Martia dominus. The project was completed via a join U.S.-French effort to undermine the efforts of the Crimson Empire to place mimics within all forms of human government to manipulate and control the direction of human development. The project did not directly succeed. However, the Crimson Empire eventually withdrew after the Potsdam Incident.
After training in an underground facility in Eastern Kentucky, Trakes was granted asylum in the U.S. and attended Harbor University in Maine, where she majored in political science and exobiology. Little else is known about her youth, as her records remain classified by the U.S. and French governments. However, a leaked dossier does reveal that Trakes sought military training on two separate occasions and may have been responsible for at least two lethal incidents at West Point – both involving a 3-star general.
At age 27, she graduated from Harbor University with a PhD and entered the European Space Agency's Outreach Program. There, she made a name for herself as a shrewd scientist. She discovered the remnants of the Ontar Civilization in the DNA of cockroaches, which dramatically changed our understanding of the origin of life in the Milky Way Galaxy. Though brilliant as a scientist, Trakes quickly established herself as a negotiator after convincing the Crimson Empire to relinquish its stranglehold on garnesium mining, a necessary element for interstellar travel.
As a negotiator, she became known for her eccentric and unusually unrelenting figure. Among her many eccentricities was Frank, a three-legged Doberman she kept at her side during all negotiations. It is unclear if Frank functioned as a scare tactic or an ice-breaker, as reports on his involvement in her negotiations suggest he could both bite exceedingly hard and lick a diplomat into submission. During the Centauran Blockade of 2016, she single-handedly strongarmed Amaril Cloon into relinquishing control of the Bestark Sector and brokered a peace treaty. After the incident, the Centaurans referred to her as “La'ca'hool” – or “Spine.” Her subsequent efforts with the ESAOP, such as the Everwinter Gamble and the Dreisleyr Collapse, eventually earned her the Presidential Medal of Honor and the French Legion of Honour. These were kept secret until 2086.
In her later years, Trakes spent considerable time supporting the construction of a galactic library in Nova Scotia as part of an intergalactic effort to preserve knowledge. Though the library was incomplete upon her death in August 2097, it still contained nearly 37 billion terabytes of documents from over 400 cultures. Upon her death, the Archmark of Playneov donated a replica of the Mark of Eternal Peace to the library in honor of Trakes' efforts. In the last interview before her death, Trakes said, “I have led a life of secrets. It makes me a remarkably interesting woman, and I would have it no other way. Plus, secrets are fun. Just ask the scientists who made me!” She is survived by Frank III.
